Which loads is machine stretch film used to package?
Pallet wrapping for textile and beverage cartons
Machine stretch film is used on regular pallet wrapping lines to hold textile cartons and boxed beverage loads together. Pallet height, carton arrangement and the machine’s pre-stretch system all affect film selection. This application is for wrapping the outside of a pallet; it does not indicate that the film is suitable for direct food contact.
Marble, travertine and industrial component pallets
For heavy, angular industrial products, the shape of the load and the risk of puncture are especially important. Choose film alongside corner protection and pallet arrangement. Provide the film width used by the machine, core dimensions and pre-stretch ratio; assess suitability in a wrapping trial with the actual load.

What is machine stretch film and which machines use it?
Machine stretch film is a multi-layer LLDPE film made for semi-automatic and fully automatic pallet wrapping machines. It is used on turntable wrappers, robotic wrappers and automatic wrapping lines. The machine’s pre-stretch system stretches the film before it is applied, so the load is wrapped tighter and more evenly with less film.
What is the difference between machine and hand stretch film?
Machine stretch film comes in heavier rolls for pallet wrapping machines and is stretched by the machine’s pre-stretch unit before it is applied. Hand stretch film comes in light rolls for manual use. Thanks to pre-stretch, machine film wraps far more load per metre, which clearly lowers film consumption and cost in regular, high-volume pallet wrapping.
What is pre-stretch and why does it matter?
Pre-stretch is how much the film is elongated between the machine’s rollers before it is wrapped. The higher the ratio, the more the film is elongated before wrapping, so the same load needs less film. Tell us your machine’s pre-stretch ratio and we will recommend the right thickness and film structure.
What thickness of machine stretch film do I need?
We make stretch film in any thickness from 9 to 35 microns. As a general guide, 17–20 microns suits light, even loads, 20–23 microns standard pallets, and 25–35 microns heavy loads, sharp corners or long journeys. Machines with high pre-stretch may need thinner film. Tell us your load weight and machine and we will choose the right thickness together.
How do I choose the right roll for my machine?
Just send us your machine’s make and model, the core inner diameter, the film width you use and the pre-stretch ratio. The width can be anything from 10 to 50 cm. Based on this, we will recommend the right thickness and roll weight.
How do you stop wrapped pallets sticking to each other?
This is usually done with one-sided cling stretch film, whose inner side clings to itself while the outer side stays slippery, so wrapped pallets do not stick together in the warehouse or truck. If your pallets travel side by side or stacked, mention this in your quote request and we will confirm the right film option with you.
Do you make coloured or white machine stretch film?
Yes. Besides clear film, we make white and coloured machine stretch film. Coloured and dark films keep goods out of sight and make it easier to tell pallets for different products, customers or shipments apart.
What affects the price of machine stretch film?
The main factors are film thickness, width, roll weight, colour and order quantity. But the real cost is the amount of film used per pallet: with the right pre-stretch and thickness, the same pallet is wrapped with less film.
